About Lily
During her last 2 years studying music as a student of world-renowned concert pianist Valerie Tryon, majoring in harpsichord and piano at McMaster University, Lily Sazz discovered the music that would rock her world and change her path forever. She witnessed a live performance on the street in Gore Park, downtown Hamilton, not knowing who or what she was experiencing. That group turned out to be Crowbar with King Biscuit Boy. Through mutual friends, she met, and eventually befriended several of these Canadian legends who generously mentored her, later encouraging her to join her first band back in 1985.
Since then, Sazz's musical journey has led her through many adventures, performing and recording with some Canada's best musicians. She joined the Toronto Blues Society Women's Blues Revue band in 1995, and has been resident keyboard player ever since. The show is staged every November at Massey Hall (Roy Thomson Hall during Massey renos), and has toured on occasion, including the National Arts Centre in Ottawa.
Sazz currently performs with her six-piece Maple Blues Award nominated roots/blues group, Cootes Paradise, and has toured with Rita Chiarelli (with Sweet Loretta), and others.
Over the years, she has performed live with many wonderful artists. Here's a list of just a few in alphabetical order:
Carole Pope / Chuck Jackson / Denzal Sinclair / Donnie Walsh / Ellen McIllwaine / Haydain Neale / Jackie Richardson / Jarvis Church / Kellylee Evans / King Biscuit Boy / Molly Johnson / Nikki Yanovsky / Paul Shaffer / Ray Materick / Robbie Lane / Roxanne Potvin / Salome Bey / Sass Jordan / Serena Ryder / Shakura Saidah / Sue Foley / Suzie Vinnick / Tom Wilson / Treasa Levasseur
"Lily Sazz, Hamilton’s most consistent, most inspired gift to Canada’s music scene."
